University Jewish Chaplaincy currently has seven full time and five part time Chaplains or Chaplaincy couples in a dozen regions across the UK who work with Jewish students and universities enhancing the Jewish student experience and safeguarding Jewish university life. Over a period of ten years 30,000 students are reached through pastoral care, Shabbat hospitality and creative event programming that inspires students to connect with their Judaism, no matter what their affiliation or practice. University Jewish Chaplaincy couples are there for all Jewish students, providing a warm, non-judgmental, vibrant, inclusive and inspiring Jewish environment. University Jewish Chaplaincy is constantly planning to enhance Jewish student life in the UK. Chaplaincy couples are instrumental in building communities for Jewish students both now and for the future.
Additionally, with the current unfortunate resurgence in antisemitism in Britain and worldwide, our Chaplains and Chaplaincy couples will continue to be there for Jewish students to offer practical and emotional support during these troubling times, as well as representation to the highest levels of university governance.
The current total annual budget for Chaplaincy is £800,000 which covers the cost of placing Chaplains and running events in Chaplaincy communities. Our aim for the academic year of 2015-2016 is to raise £200,000 more than previous years in order to grow the organisation and place full time Chaplains or Chaplaincy couples in Durham, Manchester and Liverpool & NW Regions, so that even more students can benefit from our services.
University Jewish Chaplaincy is a registered charity that is one hundred percent funded by donations. Chaplaincy and its Chaplaincy couples are entirely dependent on the generosity of the Jewish community to safeguard Jewish life for university students now and in the future. Please join us, the students, and alumni on our journey to build the future of UK Jewry.
